Technique Clinics

"Chiftitelli with Attitude" - 10am-11:30am
Natasha of Portland will instruct on strengthening taxsim technique and add Turkish flavor to this classic rhythm structure.

"American Greek Cabaret" - 11:45-1:15pm
Norma of Detroit will be teaching how to structure and format an American Greek-style cabaret routine as it was performed in Greek towns throughout the US and Canada during the 1960's-1990's.

"Khaleeji and Finger Cymbals" - 1:30-3:00pm
Shadia of Detroit will be teaching a 2-part class. First part - Khaleeji Dance. Second part - Finger Cymbals.

Each clinic is $30, or $55 for two, or $80 for all three

Master class - 3:30pm-5:30pm

For advanced and professional dancers. Mohamed teaches his innovative combos and choreography with attention to staging, presence, and style.
$50 or $45 before June 1st.

Many gently-used professional costumes available for purchase, as well as veils, cymbals, and khaleeji dresses to borrow or purchase.

Some experience recommended.

"Raks Sharqi Choreography" - 2:30pm-4:30pm
Intermediate to Advanced levels encouraged.
Mohamed will highlight correct application of movement to instrumentation as well as the personal dynamics and technique of classical Egyptian belly dance through his own original choreography.

One workshop: $45 /$40 early registration (ends June 1st)
Both workshops: $85 /$75 early registration (ends June 1st)

Mohamed will perform his signature dances of Egypt along with top professionals from all across the USA showcasing a full spectrum of Belly dance styles, including Turkish, American Tribal, North African, and many others. Following the show, we are thrilled to introduce Detroit Star Tony Bahu to the Chicago stage! Innovative and irresistible, Tony's tabla styling fuses western and middle-eastern music into a dance sensation!

1st Annual Cairo Raks Chicago with legendary Aida Nour

Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, 2008

Chellcy is sponsoring Aida Nour of Egypt for 8 hours of workshops and a fabulous show. Don't miss Aida's Chicago debut!!! The Workshops will be held at Visceral Dance Studio which is located at 2820 N. Elston Ave., Chicago, IL 60618 (at the intersection of Western, Diversey, and Elston). Show and DVD Details TBA.

Ayda will be teaching Andalusian and Oriental choreographies on Saturday, October 18. On Sunday, October 19 she'll teach Shaabi and Alexandrian (Malaya Leff) choreographies. Both workshops will be held 11am-4pm with a one hour lunch break.

Mr. Sharif is world-renowned as a master of Egytian dance. A brilliant performer, innovative choreographer and demanding instructor, he merges authentic traditional dance with modern elements in a two-day Oriental Choreography Workshop (Sat-Sun). He will also offer an all-levels Saiidi class on Friday night.
